Some weeks ago, I designed a new collection for an important event that will take place later this year. We will inform you in due time — so, stay tuned.

THE DEFINITION OF A COLLECTION

What does it take for a dozen models to actually become a collection?
I am glad you asked. Stilettissimo’s definition of a collection is simple.

«IN A COLLECTION, EVERY MODEL IS UNIQUE, YET CONNECTED TO THE OTHERS BY A COMMON THREAD.»

WHERE TO START?

This is easier said than done. Again, the power of saying no is a designer’s superpower — at least in my view. Of course, our customers are the most important criterion.

  • Where do they live?
  • Do we have to take care of the season, or is it for a place where seasons are less relevant?

Moreover, a collection typically has a motto. For us, it can be a story, a certain material, a type of accessory, or a colour. But how to start?

As you might know, we don’t really care about trends but focus on originality, uniqueness, and outstanding design.

SO THE QUESTION REMAINS: WHERE DO WE START?

For a certain collection, I wanted to capture the spirit of the Roaring 20s and reinterpret its ideas in a modern collection. It can also be an event that brings ideas for shoes.

 THE DEVELOPMENT

At one time, it was a certain heel that inspired me. Once I designed the first model and chose the accessory, I knew what story I wanted to tell. Yes, of course, you can tell a story for each model, but people — especially buyers from department stores — want to see a collection. As story for which each model must be a chapter.

However, we cannot make an entire collection with only one type of heel or the same accessory for each model. Some women prefer a flat model, while for others, the heels cannot be high enough.
Colours are a strong ‘glue’ to create a collection.

My next step is to assingn colour, speaking to the tanneries about the availability of the different materials.

As the colours were in place, I create dozens of sketches of various models. Yes, you guessed it — I say no to the large majority, as they do not tell the right story.

The ones that remain in the game are adorned with accessories and the entire collection is completed with additional models.

I am always happy, when I will travel to Italy to discuss every detail with our manufacturers, who will then craft the samples.

Once the time comes, we can tell the world our latest story.
