There are many versions of how Cinderella became a princess. Yet they all share one element: the fall from being a beloved daughter to a maid, mistreated by her stepmother and her stepsisters, followed by her rise to a cherished princess, happier and more beautiful than she could ever have imagined.
In the German-speaking world, Three Wishes for Cinderella from 1973 is perhaps the most iconic Christmas movie. Pumpkins and lizards turning into coaches and footmen do not appear in this version.
The Cinderella of 1973 rode her own white horse to the castle and galloped back home because the Prince could not solve the riddle she had given him. She was not subject to a random curfew. This makes her not only a style icon but a very independent woman.
In the film, Cinderella is given three hazelnuts, each of which will fulfil a wish. She chooses a hunting outfit, a ball gown, and finally, a wedding dress.
Three Things Cinderella Teaches Us
1. Pursue Your Goals in Style
Regardless of your job you need to dress for the pursuit of your goals. Wearing the right outfit makes you feel better, which in turn makes you look and feel more confident.
2. Choose Wisely
Your resources may not be endless. Time certainly is not. This means none of us can achieve everything at once, and we have to select a few goals and prioritise them. It seems Cinderella had only one goal at first: getting out of her misery.
Along the way, she incidentally met her Prince Charming when riding her horse through the forest. Her next step to freedom was meeting him again incognito while he was deer hunting.
Step 1: She needed a suitable outfit for this and set her mind to it.
Step 2: Next, she wanted to go to the ball and required a gown.
Step 3: She sacrificed her last wish for a wedding dress.
3. Every Woman Needs the Right Shoes
If it were not a fairy tale, we would call it a masterpiece of successful strategy, would we not?
