There are many versions of how Cinderella became a princess. However, they have one thing in common: the fall from being a beloved daughter to a maid mistreated by her stepmother and her horrible daughters, followed by her rise to being a beloved princess, happier and more beautiful than she could ever have dreamed of.
In the German-speaking world, «Three Wishes for Cinderella» from 1973 is probably the most iconic Christmas movie. Pumpkins and lizards turning into a coach and footmen do not appear in this version, as the Cinderella from 1973 rode her own white horse to the castle and saddled up to gallop right back home just before curfew. And she is directly linked with hot chocolate, candles, and Christmas spirit.
The film tells us that Cinderella was given three hazelnuts, each of which would fulfil a wish. She opted for a hunting outfit, a ball gown, and finally, a wedding dress.
