The scent Femme has been created by the House of Rochas in 1945.

Marcel Rochas, the founder of the House of Rochas was originally a lawyer. Quite astonishing, isn’t it? He was only 23 years old when he changed his profession and set up shop in Paris In 1925.

And he was a huge success, too.

FASHION FOR HOLLYWOOD

At the beginning he produced luxury fashion for superstars like Marlene Dietrich or Carole Lombard. He also hired famous people to work for him. The artist Jean Cocteau or the renowned fashion designer Paul Poiret to name only two.

As from 1953, Marcel Rochas concentrated strictly on perfumes while his wife Hélène looked after the fashion department. After Marcel Rochas’ unexpected death in 1955, Hélène would manage the entire company and sell it in 1970.

The Scent «Femme»

«Femme» is the oldest of Rochas’ perfumes that is still available. «Femme» belongs to the perfume family called «Chypre».

The name Chypre originates form the French name for Cyprus and has been invented by François Coty who created a scent by this name.

Chypre

The ingredients Coty used for his fragrance became the standard for the entire perfume family:

Oak moss, labdanum, patchouli and bergamot are the main ingredients for the scents of the family «Chypre»

Besides the typical Chypre ingredients Rochas used prunes which makes the composition chypre-fruity. These scents tend to last a long time on one’s skin.
According to Rochas’ Website the scent is also very seductive:

A must-have fragrance that is voluptuous and sensual, and whose spicy-fruity-chypre accord is the quintessence of feminine seduction.
