Heels Are Ageless

Very few things in fashion are as heatedly discussed as heels.

The ‘wisdom’ and warnings about heels seem to run rampant, which is probably the reason why I am frequently asked about my philosophy on heels.

Probably you already have been warned that high heels destroy your feet, that heeled shoes are notoriously uncomfortable, and that once you hit your forties, you should consider reasonable shoes. In my view this is sheer nonsense.

Heels Are Ageless

Can you imagine Tina Turner walking on stage in a billowing flower-power dress and a pair of flats? On the other hand, a very young Audrey Hepburn showed us how elegant and feminine ballerinas can be.

THE BEST SHOE IS THE ONE THAT FITS YOUR FEET AND YOUR STYLE.

Brigitte Kobi | Stilettissimo

I strongly believe that you should wear the shoes that fit your style and your personality, as luxury is not determined by the height of your heels, and flats are not necessarily a ‘healthy’ choice.

Comfort Is A Must at Any Age

We have discussed how we assure comfort in a previous chapter.

Many women suffer from sore feet because they have worn the wrong shoes for too long. What I frequently see is that the shoes are too short. This also makes them too narrow for your feet. No wonder your feet scream. Additionally, it makes your walk wobbly, which is far from stylish.

However, wearing plastic flip-flops or cheap canvas shoes without any support is not the answer.

I am not an orthopaedist, but I know how important high-quality shoes are for children. Their feet are still growing and are therefore easily hurt. If their parents buy them shoes with a footbed that have the right size and width, they will be more likely to wear their preferred shoe style once they are grown up.

THE ELEGANCE OF HEELS

There is no doubt that heels have an impact on your gait, posture, and the way you feel.

Yes, high heels make you stand – quite literally – taller and feel better.

But they will make you feel miserable if they are uncomfortable or don’t match your personal style.

Not Every High Heel is a Stiletto

There is a common misconception that a high heel is always a stiletto and that a stiletto is always high.

‘Stiletto’ describes the shape of the heel; stilettos are thin and typically straight, but they can be as low as 5 centimetres. A high heel can be a stiletto or a block heel. A block heel has a larger diameter and can be round or square.

NOT EVERY STILETTO IS A HIGH HEEL AND NOT EVERY HIGH HEEL IS A STILETTO.

Brigitte Kobi | Stilettissimo

The type of heel has an influence on the way a shoe feels.

The Heel Alone Does Not Define Elegance

Personally, I believe that a heel does not have to be 12 centimetres (almost 5 inches) high to make a shoe sexy. Unless you can walk in these shoes really effortlessly, a heel of only 8 centimetres (3 inches) is a lot more elegant.

Heels at Any Age?

Yes, but the right ones!

Here are a few tips on how to find the right ones.

Of course, your physical condition might prevent you from wearing high heels. While this is more probable as you reach a certain age, it can also happen at 30. You see, the heel height is not primarily defined by age, and there is certainly no predefined D-Day on which you have to completely change your style.

I can only repeat that, to me, luxury is not determined by heel height. It is your style that counts, along with the beauty and quality of the shoes.

Stilettissimo’s Collections

While Stilettissimo primarily offers high heels, designs rarely exceed 10 centimetres in height. Some models offer the option to select from different heel heights.

However, we believe that luxury shoes also must be functional, which is why our collections sometimes feature various styles such as ballerinas, loafers, or even sneakers.
